Fishing for plastic
It is a situation that we have all created, some more than others and that apparently seems unstoppable, affecting sectors as important as fishing, tourism, nautical tourism, navigation, people’s health, the health of ecosystems. marine, altering and polluting all our seas, their marine animals and of course humans at the end of the chain.
From the general point of view it seems to us a very limited idea, with an impact to be determined and greatly favoring trawling, which is the group to which this injection of € from the FEMP fund is allocated according to the ORDRE ARP document / 11/2020, of February 5, Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya No. 8060 – 10.2.2020, extracting from the seabed (200 and 300 mys or more) the plastics or remains that remain on the seabed, which Now they have seen that these have been colonized by marine beings and perhaps their extraction is not a good idea.
From a technical and ecological impact point of view, it is not a good idea to target and fight against marine pollution with vessels and systems which have been in the spotlight for years due to their great impact on the destruction of the bottom and the marine fauna, being a fishery with a discard of between 30% and 80% and with very high percentages of marine and atmospheric pollution, due to the high consumption per day of between 800 and 1,000 liters of diesel.
We should expand the range of possibilities, give prominence to new companies within the blue and sustainable economy, which from the European Commission has marked us, specifically in SDG 14, Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for development Sustainable, TARGET 14.1 MARINE POLLUTION By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, particularly from activities on land, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.
Without going any further, we would like to be able to send to whom it corresponds the message that otherwise it is possible, we must encourage new objectives and new proposals to advance towards a sustainable and circular economy, avoiding in our actions the degradation of ecosystems and that the objective does not justify the means.
